Man Utd swoop up duo

Man utd are going to sign Anderson and Nani from FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon respectively. The tranfer amount although undisclosed is believed to be around 50 million euros for both the players. Wow I am so excited. It has been years since Man utd have shown such aggressiveness in the transfer market.
Anderson is a quality FM and is already touted to be the next 'dinho. He has an amazing left foot and has bundles of raw pace. His passing and vision does not reflect that he is only 19 yrs of age. Fergie has surely found replacements for Giggs and Scholes .
In Nani u have another fast and exciting winger (Sporting's specialization IMO :P). I think with Hargreaves already signed up Man Utd will change their formation to 4-5-1. With Ronaldo, Rooney, Anderson and Nani in our team I think we can challenge for european honours. I think Fergie is ready with his third great side. There is just too much pace and quality in the team now for others to survive .
Will Nani and Anderson fulfill their potential , especially in a tough league like EPL is yet to be seen but the prospects for next season are exciting. I am already buzzing!!

Seven Up

ManUtd 7 - A.S. Roma 1
The final scoreline at Old Trafford said it all. The romans were hopelessly thrashed in a virtuoso display of attacking football by Manchester United. Nobody could have dreamt of that kind of a scoreline before the match especially considering that Man Utd were trailing from the first leg and were w/o Scholesy. But after Carrick had chipped a fantastic shot over Doni, United just steamrolled over Roma. Many teams (chelski?) would have tried to defend that 1-0 lead that would have been enough to carry Manu to the semi-finals. But not Manu. The scoreline is a testimony to the beautiful, free-flowing attacking football that the Red Devils have been playing all season long.
Sir Alex Ferguson had earlier said that after being defeated in last two games his team would bounce back . And did they do well? Ronaldo was brilliant as expected . Is Carrick taking some shooting lessons from the Ginger Prince ? Two sublime strikes by the man whose is proving that his importance to the team is much more than the 18.6 million pounds that Utd shelled out for him. Giggs again stepped up to the occasion and provided 4 assists. But the major surprise performance of the night to me was that of Darren Fletcher. Filling in the void left by Scholes's suspension Fletcher did more than what would have been asked of him. He made several important tackles and was a livewire on the pitch. He was all over the Roma midfield and dominated DeRossi & Totti :O. If he can play at such a level regularly then Utd don't need to look for a defensive midfielder. Hope he can carry that form to the remaining matches. Alan Smith was also very energetic and was harassing the Roma defence throughout.
Overall , a majestic display by united. Certainly their best european performance. A treat for the supporters and neutrals as well. United for the treble!!
Viva United!

Three Colors

The Three Colors trilogy is a truly masterful collection of movies by the great director Krzysztof Kieślowski. Its such a shame that he decided to retire after completing the trilogy and died two years later. This is certainly a modern masterpiece of art. Written by Krzysztof Piesiewicz and Kieslowski each of the three movies deals with real characters. Characters that come out alive from the movie and leave a profound impression on your heart and mind. Each movie is brillliantly acted with stunning visuals and briliant cinematography which deserves a separate mention itself.

The three colors blue, white and red are taken from the colors of the French national flag which stand for liberty, equality and fraternity respectively. The first movie Bleu (Blue ) deals with theme of liberty but this liberty is not political but emotional . Julie (Julliette Binoche) is a woman who has lost her husband and only child in a car accident. She devotes herself to inflicting mental pain and agony on herself and disassociates herself from her past memories and friends. the rest of the movie deals with how she manages to find liberty from the emotional cage that she had locked herself in. Bleu is the symphony of grief. Julliette Binoche gives the performance of her lifetime.

The second movie Bialy(white) deals with the theme of equality. Divorced by her wife Dominique on the grounds that he was not able to consummate their marriage Karol ,a polish immigrant, goes back to Poland. There he works hard and is able to earn himself a fotune. But all these years he is not able to forget Dominique. So he uses his money to win her back by framing her for his own murder. Like other moivies in this trilogy, Kieslowski uses the color of the title to depict the mood of the movie. White for hope in this case.

The third and the final movie and my personal favorite Rouge(Red) deals with the theme of fraternity. A student and a model , Valentine .in love with an obsessive lover, meets a retired judge who spies on his neighbors by tracking their phone calls. A platonic friendship develops between the two and the judge reveals his past to her. Meanwhile her neighbor, Auguste's life follows the exact parallel as that of the judge. Finally at the end of the movie Valentine and Auguste meet for the first time along with the characters of the previous two films as survivors of a sea accident.

Seldom in your life do you get a chance to see movies which touch you so deeply. A must watch for all connoisseurs of good cinema.
PS: not meant for those get bored by the slow pace of a movie.

Roma 2 - ManU 1

United lost to AS Roma this midweek. But not such a bad result, specially if you consider that United were a man down for about two-thirds of the game. And we got the vital away goal that we needed. Now a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford would be enough to carry us through to the semis.

Ronaldo once again showed why he is the best player in the world at the moment. Some of his runs in the match were breathtaking especially the one leading to United's goal. Classic counterattacking football . And for all the comments from the Roma players about Ronaldo's diving it was a Roma player who went in to the ref's book for simulation. Totti too was guilty of exaggeration which lead to Scholesy being sent off. What a disgrace!!!

United ,this season, has shown the desire and more importantly the fighting qualities that were missing the last few seasons. United would certainly miss Scholesy for the return leg at Old Trafford . But its time for the squad players to step up .

So come on United lets tear Roma apart at Old Trafford!
